Family focuses search for missing man near hospital, Rotary Trail

UPDATE: Police have confirmed Dwight Whitehead was located deceased late Monday morning. The death is not considered suspicious.

After a man went missing from Victoria Hospital several weeks ago, his brother has launched a ground search for him as he’s concerned and worried for his mental health and safety.

Dwight Whitehead has been missing since New Years and his younger brother Craig said the last time he spoke with Dwight he talked about suicide which has him worried.

“He’s been going through a lot. He’s really vulnerable for suicide and is high risk,” Craig said.

While it is normal for Dwight to not check in with family for some periods time, Craig said his birthday was on Jan. 8 and he never responded to anyone’s messages.

“On Jan. 8, I realized he hadn’t reached out to anybody, and it was his birthday. Everybody that knows my brother, he likes the attention, especially on Facebook on his birthday,” Craig said.

After contacting all their mutual friends they have nobody has heard from him so the decision was made to start looking more aggressively and to file a missing persons report.

On Monday, Jan. 16 about 25 searchers, including the PAGC Search and Rescue team, started looking for signs of Dwight in the areas he was last seen. The team started at the hospital, and will continue to search behind the Alfred Jenkins Field House, toward the PAGC buildings and down the hill along the Rotary Trail toward the West Flat area.

Craig says Dwight has medication that he has not been taking recently and in the surveillance photos from the hospital, he was not wearing a sweater so his family thinks he is likely not dressed for winter weather.

Two days ago, Prince Albert Police issued a second news release asking for information on Dwight’s whereabouts.

He was last seen just after 6 p.m. on Jan. 2.

He is 5-8 tall and 180 pounds. He has very short hair and brown eyes.
