Alleged vehicle thief and suspect responsible for standoff breaches bail

The woman charged after a serious incident in Prince Albert’s west flat and released on bail days later, is back in custody again.

Angela Ahenakew’s matters were addressed Tuesday morning at Provincial Court and adjourned to Friday for a possible bail hearing. Her attendance was waived for the short hearing.

According to information provided to paNOW, she was arrested over the weekend for being in violation of a condition that she abstain from being in a place where alcohol is served.

In relation to the stand-off with police on Jan. 2, she is facing a number of gun-related charges. She is also charged with fraud involving a credit card, and theft of a motor vehicle.

It’s alleged she stole a vehicle from a home on MacArthur Drive and then went to a residence on 18th Street West, where 11 people were evacuated from the home. Ahenakew then allegedly barricaded herself inside the residence with a gun, but gave up peacefully after several hours.

Officers later recovered a rifle and ammunition from inside the home. No one was injured in the incident Along with the stolen vehicle, a stolen wallet, credit cards, a firearm and ammunition were recovered from the home.

The house that is listed for sale is known within the community as having ties to gang activity.

In addition to the above mentioned charges, Ahenakew also has another outstanding charge related to breach of a conditional sentence order.
