Vehicle vandalisms spike in Prince Albert

Dec 19, 2022 | 2:00 PM

According to numbers provided by SGI, a new vehicle window or gift card from an auto body shop may be popular items on people’s Christmas lists this year.

From Dec. 1 to Dec. 15, there have been 74 claims related to vehicle vandalism or malicious damage. This compared to only 11 for the same time period last year.

SGI noted in their statement not all claims are reported right away, so we may still see changes to the 2022 numbers, as they are preliminary at this stage.

From Oct. 1 to Dec. 15, there have been a total of 159 incidents. This compares to 109 for the same period in 2021.

In the past few weeks, dozens of incidents have been reported to Prince Albert Police. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity, or has surveillance camera footage, is encouraged to contact either the Prince Albert Police Service or Crime Stoppers.

Reporting suspicious activity, can help police direct resources and monitor any trends or similarities.
