Salvation Army out in full force for ‘National Fill the Kettle Day’

Shoppers at the Walmart in Prince Albert on Saturday got to meet some four-legged friends while either coming in or going out of the store.

Volunteers from the Salvation Army were standing outside of the east entrance to the building with two donkeys in an effort to raise money for the Christmas Kettle Campaign.

Major Ed Dean with the Salvation Army told paNOW that they were not just set up at Walmart, but all over the city too.

“We have them set up everywhere,” he said. “We have them at Superstore, Save-on-Foods, Co-op, and Safeway as well. This afternoon at Superstore, we had some carolers from Wakaw come out and donate their time to us, so it’s been pretty busy.”

The goal for this year’s Christmas Campaign is $100,000 meaning if the Salvation Army hits that goal before Christmas, Walmart will match that total where then a portion of that money will go back into the community.

“We’re not there yet, we’ve got a ways to go,” he said. “We have eight days left so hopefully within that time, we hit that $100,000 mark. That’s not just from the kettles and the bells, that’s the total from the entire campaign. So we’re grateful for any and all donations and (the money) will be used here in our community.”

Dean added that they are still looking for volunteers for next week.

“Bell ringers are still needed for next week,” he said. “Anyone looking to be scheduled in for a shift can contact 306-960-0513.”

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign wraps up on Christmas Eve.
