Canada names World Junior roster, former Raider Allan makes final squad
Nolan Allan has represented team Canada on the international stage before. After a successful summer evaluation camp and a hard-fought couple of games that served as tryouts, he’s going to represent them once again on the biggest stage yet.
Today, Hockey Canada announced its roster for the upcoming World Junior Championship, and Allan has cracked the list. The former Raiders defenceman is one of seven blue liners representing Canada, three of whom are from the WHL.
Allan, a first-round pick of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, played 162 games with the Raiders over parts of five seasons and was serving as the team’s captain when he returned from the Blackhawks to the Raiders. He posted 11 points in 16 games while bringing stalwart defence and heavy physical play.
Last month, Allan was traded to the Seattle Thunderbirds in a blockbuster deal that saw nine assets (three players and two picks) come back to the Raiders. He has three points in seven games with Seattle, with his time there being interrupted by the World Junior camp.
