January inquest scheduled for Pine Grove death

Dec 9, 2022 | 11:16 AM

The circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate at Pine Grove two years ago will be the focus of an inquest early next year.

On July 29, 2020, 31-year-old Cassandra Ross was found unresponsive in her cell.

Despite efforts by staff to resuscitate and transport her to the Victoria Hospital for further care, Ross was pronounced dead.

Inquests are mandatory in Saskatchewan whenever a person dies while in custody and are used to determine the manner and cause of death along with other details.

Juries are also asked by the coroner to make recommendations to prevent future similar deaths if necessary.

Ross’s inquest will start at 10:00 am on January 9 and is scheduled to run until January 13 at the Coronet Hotel.

Coroner Robert Kennedy, K.C. will preside at the inquest.
