Marie Cholodnuik
June 9, 1934 ~ November 4, 2022
On Friday November 4, 2022 Marie Cholodnuik passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 88 years.
Marie was born in Henribourg, SK on June 9, 1934 to John and Ann (nee Hryhor) Sloboda, becoming a big sister to Peter Sloboda (predeceased). She went to school in Cloverdale, Albertville, and secretarial school in Prince Albert, SK.
Marie married the love of her life Steve Cholodnuik on July 4, 1959, in Prince Albert, SK. They farmed in the Meath Park District. When Dad passed, Mom moved to Prince Albert, SK then to Saskatoon, SK. She always enjoyed the outdoors, farming (especially harvest), gardening, cooking, baking, canning, listening to John Gormley, and other talk shows, walking, which was always accompanied by coffee row, visiting, and hosting family and friend gatherings. She enjoyed mushroom and berry picking and just being in the bush even though she had absolutely NO sense of direction. Mom was her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader! She LOVED people and was happiest when there was lots of activity around her. Mom made friends easily and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed attending various day programs in Saskatoon, especially the First Step Program at the Field House …we’re sure she preferred the visiting more than the exercise and would be heckled by some of the participants who would say “Marie, less talking and more walking”. She would laugh and keep talking… Mom was renowned for her chiffon cakes, butter tarts, and her honey glazed doughnuts!
Marie is survived by her children: Teras (Jewel) Cholodnuik of Saskatoon, SK, Sylvia Cholodnuik of Saskatoon, SK, and Thom Cholodnuik of Lloydminster, SK; grandchildren: Jordan (Kallie) Sears, Kieran (Jenn) Steedsman, Kaela Cholodnuik, Steven Cholodnuik; great grandchildren: Brooklyn and Addalyn Sears; sister-in-law, Stella Sloboda; aunt, Jean Pawlyshyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Steve Cholodnuik; parents John and Ann (nee Hryhor) Sloboda; parents-in-law John and Maggie Cholodnuik; brother Peter Sloboda; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
