Lietta Adrian September 9, 1940 – November 12, 2022
The family of Lietta Adrian is saddened to announce her passing on November 12, 2022.
Lietta, (Lee), was born on September 9, 1940, in Prince Albert to Thomas and Joyce Boyle. She was raised on the family farm in Canwood, along with her brother Leslie and her sister, Grace. Lee attended Moose Valley School up to grade 10, then finished grades 11 and 12 in Canwood. She attended a teacher’s college in Saskatoon. Her first teaching job was at Tweedsmuir School at Emma Lake. She later taught at West Central, Spruce Home, and Princess Margaret schools in the Prince Albert region.
In July 1961, Lee married Art Adrian. She continued to teach in Prince Albert while Art worked as a mechanic and then became the Superintendent of the Prince Albert School bus division.
Their family grew with two sons, Doran (Mary) and Ryan (Debora). In 1975, the lure of farming drew them back to the Canwood area where Lee and Art began their farm operation. Lee worked hard, side by side with Art, driving the combine, hauling grain, and growing a huge garden. She was an amazing cook and baker, skills learned from her mother and mother-in-law. Her homemade soups, bread, buns, and cinnamon twists were a few of her specialties.
In 1983, Lee returned to teaching at Canwood and Debden after a pause for family and their farming operation. She taught grades 1 and 2 and especially enjoyed making Christmas ornaments with her students. Music was always a part of her classroom.
Lee retired from teaching in 1995. She had two new grandchildren to dote on, Paige and Steven. She was loved by them as they were fortunate to grow up on the farm next to grandma and grandpa’s house. Cookies after school at grandma’s were always a treat!
In retirement, Lee and Art, enjoyed traveling and made trips to meet family in England and Ireland and visit friends in the Philippines. With their motorhome, they enjoyed many winters in Arizona and Texas. Lee was a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan and with her sister, Grace, in 2015 traveled to Kansas City to see a triple header between the Jays and the Royals.
Music continued to be a much-loved part of Lee’s life. She sang with the Canwood Community Choir for 15 years, and later, the Wesley United Church Choir, in Prince Albert. She enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie among her fellow singers.
When Art passed away in 2010, Lee moved to a condo in Prince Albert, and started a new chapter. There she enjoyed bowling, card nights, reading, and visiting. She especially enjoyed her good friends at the condo building and being part of the Social Committee. There were numerous suppers and fun activities to make life enjoyable.
In 2020, Lee moved to her final home at the Good Shepherd Villa in Prince Albert. Although her health had declined, she was still able to enjoy reading and watching her favorite sports on TV. Lee enjoyed conversations regarding how the curling teams were doing in the winter and the baseball teams in the summer. Each week musical guests came to perform at the Good Shepherd Villa. These performances were a particular high point for Lee.
Lee is survived by her children: Doran (Mary) Adrian of Canwood, SK, Ryan (Debora) Adrian of Canwood, SK, grandchildren Paige Adrian and Steven Adrian of Saskatoon, SK, sister Grace (Bartzen) of Lethbridge AB, sister-in-law Sandra Boyle of Canwood, SK, and brother-in-law Bill (Laverne) Adrian of Canwood, SK.
Lee is predeceased by her husband Art Adrian, parents Thomas and Joyce (nee Ridler) Boyle, parents-in-law Henry and Elizabeth Adrian, brother Leslie Boyle, brother-in-law Leonard Bartzen, and sister-in-law Betty (Rowland) Lloyd.
Lee and her family were thankful to the caring staff members at Good Shepherd that provided compassion and kindness. Thank you also to so many good friends, for their phone calls, visits, and support.
