Prince Albert residents adjust to early winter delivery

Prince Albert residents may feel they have a bone to pick with Mother Nature.

Since Sunday, the City has, according to Environment Canada, received 22cm. of snow. Walkways and sidewalks that were freshly cleared less than 24 hours ago, are now no longer visible.

Carrie Harris just bought a new snowblower and was out using it Tuesday morning.

“Best investment ever,” she said.

Harris estimated she’s been out already about three or four times.

About five blocks away, Irene Thompson was doing her best to clear out her driveway.

“This is getting very tiring,” she commented, adding the snowfall this year has been too much, too soon.

The extra snow is good news for those who make a living off it. Abaz Cleaning and Landscaping is a family-run business and Abaz Morava has cleared 13 driveways in the past two days.

“Business is going really good this year,” he commented in between jobs, adding he’s looking forward to what’s yet to come.

Meanwhile business is also booming for the stores that sell shovels and snowblowers. Malcolm Jenkins, owner of the Prince Albert Canadian Tire location explained to paNOW he ordered extra snow blowers this year

“They’re all gone,” he said, adding he has more coming. There’s also plenty of shovels in stock.

Jenkins explained as a retailer putting out all the Christmas stock, an early dump of snow in the season is greatly preferred over getting one at the end of November.

“When an early snow comes, it gives you time to flush out the place a bit and get some space for the other stuff,” he said.

Fortunately for Prince Albert, the worst of it appears to be over. Environment Canada is forecasting periods of light snow throughout the day on Tuesday, and only a 30 per cent chance of snow Tuesday night.
