PAPS warning public about the rise of robberies

Oct 22, 2022 | 2:46 PM

The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) released a statement on Saturday, notifying the public about the rise of robberies in the city.

In the past week alone, officers responded to four separate robberies which involved the suspects confronting drivers at various locations across the city.

The first happened in the morning of Oct. 16 when a driver was confronted by two men who attempted to steal his vehicle outside a business on 2nd Avenue West. The suspects threatened the man with an airsoft rifle before fleeing without the vehicle. One of the suspects was described as wearing a grey hoodie and white gloves. Police were told that the suspects were possibly dropped off in a black, newer model Chevrolet or GMC SUV that also fled the area.

The second robbery happened at the same time as the first, but at a different location in the city. A man was approached by another man while in a drive-thru in the Cornerstone area. The suspect exited from a dark coloured SUV, possibly a GMC Acadia or Chevrolet Traverse, that was also in the drive-thru. The stolen vehicle was later recovered that same day outside of the city. The suspect is described as tall and thin with long, dark hair.

The third robbery happened on the early morning of Oct. 19. A woman was approached by a man and woman on 28th Street West where the suspects then threatened the woman with bear spray and a machete. The suspects fled in her vehicle, a black 2019 Hyundai Kona with Saskatchewan license 165 LYT.

The fourth and final robbery happened during the afternoon on Oct. 21. Two men, one armed with a firearm, confronted three people as they arrived at an apartment building on 28th Street East. The suspects made off with keys to a 2018 black Honda Civic and three cell phones. One of the suspects is being described as wearing a plaid jacket while the second suspect was wearing a jean jacket.

Police confirmed that there were no reported injuries from these incidents and that they are reminding the public to be aware and alert.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to contact PAPS or Crimestoppers. Those who notice suspicious activity are also being asked to contact police.

The incidents are currently being investigated by the PAPS’s Crime Reduction Team (CRT), Forensic Identification Section (FIS), and Proactive Policing Unit (PPU).
