Police use spike belt to nab wanted man

Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a robbery and stolen trucks from the Sturgeon Lake First Nation and Christopher Lake.

Joshua Natowhow, 30, was arrested two days ago after police deployed a spike belt and disabled a stolen truck on the reserve.

RCMP were told of the stolen truck at about 10:30 pm on October 17, before determining the same suspect might be responsible for some robberies and an attempted robbery Christopher Lake the day before.

Following a search of the community, officers spotted the stolen truck and used a spike belt to stop it.

The driver then ran away into a nearby field where he was later found with the help of the Prince Albert Police’s dog service.

Naytowhow, who is from Sturgeon Lake, faces multiple charges of resisting arrest, robbery with a firearm, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by a peace officer.

He also faces charges of having a weapon contrary to an order and failing to surrender to authorization.

Naytowhow was in Prince Albert Provincial Court today and will be back again tomorrow morning.

RCMP also say they found three vehicles reported stolen on October 16, including the black Dodge Ram in the Christopher Lake area on Sunday.

In that incident, three men armed with a gun stole a pickup from its owner. The thieves were wearing bandanas and hoodies and drove away with the stolen Dodge and another pickup.

Earlier the same afternoon, another attempted theft of a vehicle was reported on the Little Red River First Nation.

The three vehicles were recovered in the Prince Albert RCMP’s jurisdiction area.
