It was a long night of voting, but the Prince Albert Grand Council has re-elected one of its Vice Chiefs.

Chris Jobb from Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation was reelected on the second ballot of voting on the final day of the PAGC Annual Assembly on Tuesday.

Jobb won the ballot over Warren McCallum, also from PBCN, 199 votes to 87. Jobb was just two votes shy of the 153 needed for a majority on the first ballot, which prompted the second round of voting. Michael Bird from Lac La Ronge Indian Band was the third candidate in the race.

After winning the election, Jobb said he was committed to working with all communities in the PAGC.

“COVID hit us hard, but we are still here,” he said. “We are a resilient nation. You gave me the authority to serve your people (and) it’s a rewarding experience to come to your communities. I am going to promise you something: I’m going to come to every community.”

In addressing the crowd, runner-up McCallum thanked those who nominated him and vowed to be back.

The election wrapped up the Annual Assembly for the PAGC which took place this year in the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre. In past years the event was held at the Senator Allen Bird Gymnasium which unfortunately burned down this past spring.

Among those who spoke at the Assembly were Grand Chief Brian Hardlotte, Chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Bobby Cameron, and Chief Karen Bird of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.

The assembly was also the scene for the signing of the Letter of Intent between the PAGC, and the federal and provincial governments on exploring tribal policing for the member nations.
