Raiders losing streak reaches four games as Hitmen down PA

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – Evan Herman netted his first goal of the season on Saturday night, but unfortunately for the Prince Albert Raiders it’s the only goal they would score as the Calgary Hitmen escaped the Art Hauser Centre with a 6-1 win.

The loss is the fourth in a row for the Raiders after going 0-3 on their recent three-game road trip.

“Our older guys have to get better,” said Raiders head coach Jeff Truitt. “They’ve gotta drive this thing and shoulder the weight. I think Zach Wilson, who was coming off an injury was one of the hardest working guys out there tonight. We bumped him up in our lines tonight just because of his effort and his energy. More guys, maybe, need to take a page from him.”

Alongside Herman, Owen Boucher and Keaton Sorensen also found the scoresheet by collecting assists on the play.

The Hitmen had five-different goal scorers on Saturday, which included two from Matteo Danis, and one each from Oliver Tulk, Blake Heward, Brandon Whynott, and Jacob Wright. Calgary also had eight different assist-getters in the contest, just one short of a team high on the season.

Tikhon Chaika and Max Hildebrand combined for 27 saves in the loss as PA now falls to 2-6-2-0 on the campaign.

Hitmen netminder Brayden Peters made 35 saves as the Hitmen improve to 3-1-1-1 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Things started off slow for the Raiders but picked up towards the end of the frame.

Calgary broke the ice midway through the period after a between the legs shot hit the post, but Tulk put it past Chaika thanks to being in the right place at the right time.

The Hitmen added another shortly after. The initial shot was stopped by Chaika but the rebound found the tape of Heward who fired a shot just over the left pad to extend Calgary’s lead.

The Raiders got on the board after a massive scrum in front of the Hitmen net led to the puck popping out for Herman who made no mistake to cut the lead back down to one after one.

Calgary would restore their two-goal lead by scoring the lone second period marker. A scrum in the crease saw Danis put the puck across the line to extend the Hitmen lead.

The Hitmen went on to add three more in the third to seal the deal and collect the 6-1 win over PA.

The Raiders are back on the road for the next contest where they’ll head west for a Central Alberta swing. They kick off the three-game weekend on Friday night at Rogers Place where PA will take on the Edmonton Oil Kings.
