Autumn in the Boreal Forest

Enjoy the beauty and splendor of Waskesiu this fall

Sep 27, 2022 | 7:32 AM

After an amazing summer paddleboarding into the sunset and suntanning on the beach, it’s time to enjoy Waskesiu lake life in the fall, canoeing in the Hanging Heart Lakes or nestled up to a cozy fire in one of our many exceptional accommodations.

Might we suggest taking the scenic drive to Waskesiu on Highway 263 where a cornucopia of colour awaits. The leaves on trees transitioning from their luscious greens to bright yellows flutter in the wind as they welcome you to the spectacular Prince Albert National Park.

While the hustle and bustle of the summer simmers in the fall, you can still find just as many things to do in Waskesiu. In fact, fall is the best time to hit the hiking trails. The weather is still warm enough that you won’t overheat while exploring the Boundary Bog Trail, among many hiking options for both day trips and backcountry excursions. Arguably the most remarkable hike in Saskatchewan is the 20-kilometre trek to Grey Owl’s cabin. For those looking for a much more leisurely hike, there is no better place to see wildlife than the Waskesiu Red Deer Trail. Its perfect for families so everyone can catch a glimpse of the Great Blue Herons, elk, deer, fox or minks. Like many trails in Waskesiu, its accessible all four seasons and transforms into a winter wonderland well suited for cross country skiing or snow shoeing.

Located on the outside edge of the townsite, Lost Creek Resort is perfect for families or those who prefer quieter surroundings. There are 20 cottages perfectly placed for privacy but shared amenities including a large firepit and an open play area for kids makes it easy to bring people together.

There is a campground experience for everyone within Prince Albert National Park, but if you’d like to explore the wilderness without missing the comforts of home, we’ve got plenty of options including Elk Ridge on the Lake – formerly known as Waskesiu Lake Lodge. It combines the vibrant communities and unique amenities of both Elk Ridge Resort and Waskesiu Lake into one exceptional year-round boreal forest destination.
