It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Georgine Ruth Harper (nee Foster) on September 15, 2022, at Birch Hills, SK.
Georgine was born December 3, 1943, in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan to George and Marg Foster. She grew up and attended school in Birch Hills and Waitville. She married her high school sweetheart, Allen Harper on July 7, 1962. To this union, they welcomed four children.
Georgine was a very loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother, attending music and dance recitals, hockey, ball, and lacrosse games, skating, carnivals, and gymnastic meets. She loved to read, sew, do crafts, travel, garden, and cook. She was very involved in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, serving on the Altar Guild and as president of St. Mary’s Anglican Church Women. Georgine was always excited when the hummingbirds would come back for the summer and had quite a bouquet of them at home. She was also very supportive of Allen’s activities – refereeing, hockey, ball, and golf.
Heart issues plagued Georgine most of her life – when she was in grade 2, she contracted rheumatic fever and spent 1 year in the Birch Hills Memorial Hospital. As a result of this, she had 3 major heart surgeries in 1980, 1992, and 2010. However, she still managed to play all high school sports, women’s hockey, slow-pitch, golfed a bit, and kept up with her active family’s activities. In later years, she enjoyed playing Lexulous with her friends and relatives, and watching sports on TV – curling, hockey, and her beloved Blue Jays were her favorites – and she was always willing to help at the golf course or to be a hole-watcher for the Blackhawks’ golf tournaments.
Georgine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Allen, her children Jamie (Shannon) and her children Brock (Alanna), Greer (Brandon) & Tyler (Sarah), Lea (Dale) and their children Jen (Davide) & Jordan (Jill), Robin (Candis) and their children Brendan (Olivia) & Brett and Regan (Andrea) and their children, Mia & Tess, her brother Gary (Joan), sisters-in-law, Eunice, Elsie, Sharon (James), Marlene & Krystall, many nieces and nephews and her dearest friends, Edith (Ken), Muriel (Lyle) and Dawna.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Marg Foster, her in-laws, Thomas and Jessie Harper, and her stepmother-in-law, Muriel Harper, her granddaughter, Dana Swenson, her sisters-in-law Darlene, Delphine, Stella & Yvonne, her brothers-in-law, Ken, Floyd, Tommy, Tom, Errol, Bill, Al & Gerry.
The Celebration of Life for Georgine will be held Saturday, September 24th at 11:00 am at Christ Alone Lutheran Brethren Church (corner of 4th Street and Bellamy Avenue). Lunch is to immediately follow with interment at the Birch Hills Cemetery following lunch.
