Gator’s Waterfest ready to return for third year

Jul 30, 2022 | 1:00 PM

The Gator’s Waterfest is set to get underway for its third year on the waters of Candle Lake.

The music show was first founded in 2020 after the pandemic ruined a birthday party. So instead of not having one, the owner of Gator’s Food Truck, Vel Court, and her business partner Dan Moroz decided to make the most of it and think outside the box.

“I turned 50 and was upset that I couldn’t have a birthday party,” Court said. “So, we decided to have a party on the boat and people asked for more because they liked it so much.”

Over the couple of years that Waterfest has been running, the festival has seen crowds of as large as 3000 strong attend the event. The festival has also seen a variety of musical talents, including many local musical talents, as well as some well-accomplished ones.

“We’ve had artists come from all over the province,” said Moroz. “We’ve had Roland Corrigal and even Tyler Lewis who was a finalist for Canadian Idol. But this weekend we have Constant Reminder who’s pretty well known in Saskatchewan.”

Court and Moroz added that the family event is free of charge and that they’re still looking for participants to help out during the event.

“We’re looking for someone with a seadoo,” Moroz said. “During the event, we’re going to be handing out some swag to people on the water and with three thousand plus people and a couple hundred boats potentially, it takes a little more than one seadoo to get around and see everybody.”

Gator’s Waterfest takes place on Sunday afternoon from 2pm-6pm, weather permitting.
