Claude G. Deault
1946 ~ 2022
It is with sadness that we announce Claude’s peaceful passing at the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the age of 76 years.
Claude was born on July 22, 1946, at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK, to Henry and Mariette (nee Dupuis) Deault. He attended school in Domremy, SK. At the age of 16 he started working in his father’s and grandfather’s welding/blacksmith shop, J. Deault & Son’s Welding & Blacksmith, in Domremy, SK. He really enjoyed learning to weld, and at the age of 17 he attended the Moose Jaw Technical School to upgrade his welding skills, and later enrolled in several welding and lathe courses in Prince Albert and Saskatoon.
In 1964, his grandfather Joseph Deault retired from the welding shop at the age of 82, and J. Deault & Son’s Welding then became H. Deault & Son’s Welding. Due to the seasonal nature of work in the welding shop, Claude sought additional work, and became a unionized member of Local 179. In 1990 his father Henry suffered a heart attack, and H. Deault & Son’s Welding Shop closed to normal everyday business. In 1992 Claude returned to Domremy and made it his home base. As a unionized and high-pressure welder, he travelled to many job sites throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba until retirement in 2016. In his spare time Claude enjoyed working at his leisure in the welding shop in Domremy, fishing and collecting antique clocks. He also enjoyed traveling throughout Saskatchewan and to the Dominican Republic.
In March of 2016 Claude suffered a massive stroke which left him partially paralyzed and unable to speak. His new home until the time of his passing became the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home where he received excellent and dignified care, for which the family is extremely grateful.
Claude is survived by his two sisters, Gisele Deault (Randy Gustafson), and Muriel Lapshinoff; as well as his nephews, Derek Riddell (Amanda) and their children, Blake, Mackenzy, and Taylor Riddell; Aaron Pelletier (Lisa) and their daughter, Natalie Pelletier; Kevin MacLaggan and his son, Kohl MacLaggan. He was predeceased by his father, Henry Deault in 1998; his mother, Mariette Deault in 2011; and his brother-in-law, John Lapshinoff in 2021.
Due to COVID, there will be a Private Family Service on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at River Park Funeral Home with interment at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claude’s memory to the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home, PO Box 370, Rosthern, SK, S0K 3R0.
