Canadian Dairy Commission names new CEO

Jul 8, 2022 | 12:50 PM

The Canadian Dairy Commission (CDC) has found its new Chief Executive Director.

Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, announced on Wednesday that Benoit Basillais was taking over the role from Serge Riendeau.

Riendeau had been the CEO since 2018, helping the commission improve collaboration between segments of the dairy supply chain and supporting the modernization of supply management.

Basillais has been with the CDC since 2003, starting out as an economist before being named the Director of Policy and Economics in 2016.

“With over 20 years of service at the Canadian Dairy Commission, Benoit Basillais is very familiar with both the stakeholders and the issues facing the dairy industry,” said Bibeau. “Now as CEO, I trust that he will make a significant contribution to the success of the dairy industry while increasing the transparency of the pricing mechanism.”

The Canadian dairy sector is a key driver of the economy as there are nearly 10,000 farms in the country supporting around 45,000 direct jobs.
