Raiders Announce Schedule

Raiders release full schedule for 2022-23

The schedule for the Prince Albert Raiders has been coming out in dribs and drabs as the team has revealed their exhibition, home opener, and full home schedules. Now the full schedule for the team’s upcoming season is out.

“It’s always a task getting it together when every team is looking for certain times and certain dates, but it’s always a fun process,” said Raiders’ business manager Michael Scissons. “The schedule is always something that, when you look at it and you’ve got the 68 games in front of you, it’s something that’s always exciting.”

Because inter-conference games haven’t happened the last two seasons, a trip to British Columbia for the Raiders and welcoming the American teams to the Art Hauser Centre are among the highlights. Those aren’t the only games the Raiders are looking forward to, however.

“We’re going to get Edmonton here early on, October 1, our third game of the year,” Scissons said. “To have a WHL champion in our building early on in the season, that’s going to be exciting. And then, obviously, all of our games against Saskatoon.”

The presence of American and BC teams on the schedule doesn’t make the games against the Blades any less exciting, or the Regina Pats for that matter. The Pats were a popular draw last season, bringing in some of the biggest crowds of the year due to both star power and local flavor.

“We’re going to get Connor Bedard and Tanner Howe and the Regina Pats in a number of times as well,” Scissons said. “It’s hard to pinpoint individual games, but to look at the schedule overall and be able to pick certain elements out of it, you’re going to get something no matter who’s in town that’s going to be exciting to watch.”

One thing the schedule with inter-conference play does, however, is restore a sense of full normalcy to the league. That sense returned quite a bit last year, thanks to a full 68-game schedule, and this is the final step in that quest to get back to normal.

“We all started to feel that midway through last year anyway,” said Scissons. “Yes, we took a two-week break just after Christmas when the league put a pause on things, but as restrictions started to be lifted and as fans started to refill the building heading down the stretch, it sure felt normal around these parts.”

Scissons added the next part of their planning is to work out which game nights work for sponsors and special events. Opening night for the Raiders comes on September 23 against Saskatoon.
