PACI students ready for next chapter after graduating

The class of 2022 at Prince Albert Collegiate Institute (PACI) has officially graduated.

A ceremony was held at the EA Rawlinson Centre on Tuesday where around 30 students received their diplomas.

Principal Dave Lokinger told paNOW this group was extra special since most of their high school lives were spent virtually.

“They are a mature group of individuals, they understand that nothing is given, everything is earned, and they have demonstrated that.”

The COVID-19 pandemic definitely highlighted the graduating class’s time at PACI. After four tough years, the EA Rawlinson Centre was filled with students with giant smiles.

“I’m just proud of myself,” said Aaliyah Daniels who plans on continuing her education.

The pandemic also served as an inspiration to at least one student. Janis Jobb is off to post-secondary with plans on joining the field of medicine.

“I want to become a virologist and help with vaccine research and creating a vaccine.”

As for what disease she wants to help find a cure for, she doesn’t quite know just yet.

Several awards were also handed out. This included for best grades, most resilient, and even the best attendance.

Scott Schlichemeyer took home the last honour, claiming he had a simple motivation to show up every day.

“Low grades,” he chuckled. “Just trying to pass and do the best I could.”

As for his next chapter, he plans on entering the workforce.

Meanwhile, before the ceremony ended, students were given some advice from their principal. More specifically, Lokinger shared advice that the graduating class had written for themselves.

After the meeting, he told paNOW the best advice he’d give is for them to “just live their lives.”
