Update: Heavy police presence reported in East Hill area

Jun 1, 2022 | 3:38 PM

Update: As of 5:40 p.m. today police have cleared the area. In a press release they stated that people no longer need to avoid the area but officers will remain for a time to collect evidence related to the incident.

The Prince Albert Police Service is advising of a heavy police presence in the 2600 block of Second Avenue East.

The public is being asked to avoid the area until further notice. A large area has been blocked off, between 25th and 27th Streets and between First and Third Avenue East/

Officers were observed at a residence and were speaking to someone by way of a megaphone.

Police were also observed in the area earlier in the day, but it’s unclear if the two incidents are related.

Robert Bratvold, Director of Education for the Sask. Rivers School Division, confirmed schools in the area were placed on “perimeter lockdown” meaning classes continued as usual, but the children did not go out for recess.

There was no threat made to any school, and the measure was taken out of precaution.

Our newsroom will have more details to come as they become available.
