Vigil reaches far and wide as search for Frank Young continues

A quickly planned vigil for a missing five-year-old from Red Earth First Nation east of Carrot River has reached far and wide, with organizers getting messages from as far away as Australia.

Sheryl Kimbley, who works for the Prince Albert Grand Council, said she was astonished at the level of social media reach and response from across Canada and overseas.

“I’m pretty happy with it and the family was pretty happy with it and really feeling the support that they need to right now,” Kimbley said.

The response has helped the family of Frank Young feel more supported as they continue to look for the boy, who has been missing for 28 days.

Frank’s family is very thankful for the search help they have received, said Sheryl Kimbley, who organized a vigil on the shores of the North Saskatchewan River in Prince Albert yesterday.

They are now looking for more people to come out and help search as a way to relieve those who have been scouring the swamp and bushes near the community for weeks.

“The response was really great before it’s just that they’re very kind people and they’re worried that people are getting tired,” said Kimbley.

Kimbley was approached by Teresa Whitecap, Frank’s grandmother, who had heard about a vigil being planned in Edmonton on Sunday.

Whitecap asked if Kimbley would organize something in Prince Albert as she wanted to help boost the search efforts.

Kimbley started Saturday and was amazed at the digital response, along with the crowd of people who gathered at the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls monument along the river.

Over 600 searchers from multiple communities and areas have been looking for Frank since April 19.
