During the sunset on May 7, 2022, heaven gained its greatest angel.
With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of Mary Theresa Sand (nee Ilg), 93 years of age, late of Saskatoon, SK, formerly of Prince Albert, SK, at the Royal University Hospital with family by her side. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great friend to many.
Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law, Connie Sand and her family, Amanda, Tanya and Candice (Asim Wali); her daughters, Dianne Sand and her family, Anna and son, Carson; Allona and daughter Stevie; Adeline (Kurt) Browne and their family, Kelvin (Lisa) and their children, Linkoln and Jovi; Kyle (Jennifer); Darlene (Jordy) Ries and their family, Alyssa (Dane) Suchan and son Deagan; Erika Ries; Ashley Ries (Kyle) Lovenuk); Sandra King and her family, Jason King and children Kyra, Aiden, Kolten; Leslie (Heather) King and children, McKenna and Harrison; Cody (Courtney) King and children, Peyton and Hannah; Arlene Sand (Cody Pocha) and their family, Robert (Lisa) Sand and their children, Ben and Jake; Shawn Stasiuk; Myles Stasiuk; Jane (Garry) Edmison and their family, Amy (Jordon Barton) and their children, Jaidyn and Jace.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joe & Theresa Ilg; her loving husband, Theodore Sand; her sons, Gerald, Alvin, Robert; her son-in-law, Cordell King; her brothers, Joe Ilg, Teddy Ilg, and Albert Ilg.
Mary Sand was born and raised in Pilger, SK. She met the love of her life, Theodore Sand, and they were wed on May 20, 1952, and farmed in the Bruno area. This is where they started their family of nine children, three boys and six girls. She took on many tasks such as raising her children, the farm chores, gardening, canning and baking. Mary enjoyed the Sunday family gatherings with great food, card games, and lots of laughter.
They retired from the farm in 1978, and moved to Prince Albert, where she had various jobs that she enjoyed. Mom really appreciated the special family occasions such as Christmas and New Years, and as her family grew, she was very happy to have her home filled with love and laughter.
After the passing of her husband, she moved to senior housing where she made numerous lasting friendships and made this her home for 10+ years. she then moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Adeline & Kurt Browne, near Saskatoon. Here again, she made a lot of new friends, enjoying the country life for 5+ years. At his time, her health had started to decline and she had a short stay at a personal care home in Saskatoon.
Mary will be dearly missed by all that knew her. The Memorial Service will be held for Mary at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, May 27, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Parish, 260 – 25 St. East, Prince Albert, SK, with Rev.
