Young boy takes icy plunge, receives lift to safety from police

Prince Albert police are reminding the public to stay clear of the riverbank at all times following an incident that happened Monday evening.

At approximately 6 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of River Street West for a report of a youth who had fallen into the river.

The 11-year-old boy was able to get out of the water and onto the embankment before police arrived, but he was unable to get back up to the sidewalk.

Patrol officers worked to navigate the slippery, wet conditions to reach the boy, and were aided by additional officers who helped lift the boy to safety. One officer received minor injuries during the rescue.

A woman accused of threatening people with a machete was arrested Saturday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., police were called to the 2200 block of Second Avenue West. Maxine Charles, 30, was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.

Late Saturday night, police responded to a stabbing in the 200 block of 15th Street West.

The suspect fled the area but was located a block away and taken into custody following a short foot chase.

Frank Ballantyne, 23, was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon.

Early Wednesday morning, police responded to a report of someone breaking into mailboxes in the 600 block of Fifth Avenue East.

A 35-year-old Prince Albert man was arrested at the scene and is facing charges of mischief and possession of break in tools.
