SMART METERS

SaskPower forced to pause installation of smart meters

Apr 4, 2022 | 11:14 AM

SaskPower has temporarily pulled the plug on its mass installation of smart meters across Saskatchewan.

In a media release Monday, the Crown corporation said the program had been put on hold due to a shortage of meters.

“Like many companies, our smart meter manufacturer is facing a continued shortage of microchips, a key component of meters, due to ongoing global supply chain issues,” the company said in the release.

“Some of our farm and rural customers were previously notified that they were receiving a meter in the spring of 2022. However, due to the shortage, their smart meter installation will be delayed.”
