Doug was born on December 1, 1942, to Austin and Marjorie Halcro. Doug was raised on a farm in the Gerrond District south of Prince Albert. He attended school at Gerrond, MacDowall, and Prince Albert Composite High School. Doug’s first full-time job was with the RM of Prince Albert. Doug started working for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (Livestock Division) in 1961 at Prince Albert. Doug married the loved of his life, Sylvianne Rabut, on May 4, 1963, and together they raised three children, Derril, Debbie, and Wanda. Doug and family returned to Prince Albert in 1984, after moving several times for his work with the Wheat Pool. He retired in 1996 after 35 years. Doug also drove highway bus for Prince Albert Northern, school bus for Saskatchewan Rivers School Division, and cab for Grey Cab, which he truly loved doing. Doug so enjoyed driving school bus, and seeing all the kids smiling faces every day. Whether It was driving semi-trailer, bus or cab, Doug was always happy when driving. He always talked about the people he met and the adventures he had. Doug loved being at White Swan Lake where him and Sylvianne had a seasonal site. They spent the whole summer there usually enjoying the company of all their children and grandchildren. He loved being at the lake and you would often see him waiting at the shore till everyone was back in off the lake. Doug loved fishing and was always ready to hop in the boat when one of the guys would stop by to take him out fishing.
Due to a decline in his health over the last few years, he went in to care at the Herb Bassett Home in 2019 for a few months, and then moved to Mont St. Joseph’s Home, where he resided until his passing.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all the staff at Mont St. Joseph and Herb Bassett care homes, as well as the staff at the Victoria Hospital for the wonderful care Doug received.
