MELFORT, Sask. — Lakeland College Animal Science Technology (AST) students have a new opportunity through the University of Alberta’s (U of A) Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences (ALES).

A new transfer agreement allows Lakeland students to continue their agricultural sciences education with U of A.

Lakeland Dean of the School of Agricultural Sciences Geoff Brown said creating new partnerships is one of Lakeland’s priorities.

“We’re excited that graduates of our animal science technology program have this new transfer pathway to earn a degree from the U of A and we look forward to collaborating with the university to create additional transfer opportunities,” Brown said.

Beginning in the fall, graduates of any one of the AST diploma majors in beef, dairy, equine, and general livestock at Lakeland’s Vermilion campus will be able to transfer their two years of study (60 credits) to the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program at the U of A in Edmonton.

The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture is an interactive degree program that prepares students for a range of careers in agricultural specialties.

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) has announced a new online platform and brand.

Co-op Agzone is a digital agronomy tool to provide a simpler way to collect, share and interpret data for farmers and local Co-op grow team members.

FCL Director of Ag Solutions Trish Meyers said with the tool, farmers can consolidate all their data together in one place, including crop plans, planting and yield records, remote imagery, and soil information.

“Co-op Grow Team members can add to and analyze that data, and use the tool’s powerful analytics to examine yields, calculate returns and determine adjustments that should be made for the season ahead,” Meyers said.

The AgZone field is designed to consolidate data from different sources and evaluate results to enable decisions to optimize yields.

All data is encrypted and remains under the ownership of the farm customer..
