For the next week or so, you can enjoy a Canadian delicacy and support young people in Prince Albert.

From now until March 20, seven of Prince Albert’s most popular restaurants are dishing out special poutines with $4 from each item sold going to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of P.A.

“We are so excited for poutine week,” said Development Coordinator Natasha Thomson. “There are 11 different varieties of poutine available on the menu.”

The restaurants participating are Boston Pizza, Mr. Mike’s, Original Joe’s, Rock & Iron, Shenanigan’s, The Knotty Pine, and The Spice Trail.

Thomson said the restaurant that sells the most poutine during the event will be named the Gravy Bowl Champion while the restaurant with the most votes by social media will win the Poutine Choice Award.

“By sharing a photo of the poutine, you ordered on Facebook or Instagram, you can help to determine the winner,” said Thomson. “Plus, each vote also enters diners into a contest to win a gift card.”

A similar event, YXE Poutine Week, has been held in Saskatoon for years. Thomson said they were inspired to bring that competition to Prince Albert.

The biggest winner in this contest will be the Big Brothers and Big Sisters which Thomson said is still in need of mentors for youth in the community.

“We have 23 children on our waiting list right now. So, we really want the people of Prince Albert to enjoy poutine and if they have two hours a week to empower a young person to visit our website and apply to become a volunteer with us.”
