Sheila (nee Coates) Goertzen
1947 ~ 2022
With fond memories Sheila’s family announces her passing on February 16, 2022, in Prince Albert, SK, joining her husband Roy Goertzen (deceased 2009). Sheila was born October 6, 1947, in Moncton, NB, youngest daughter of the late Aldon H. and Alexandra (nee McNeill) Coates.
Survived by her children, Aldon Goertzen (Jessica), Sherrill (Barclay Blanchard), Shakur Goertzen (Bree); daughter-in-law, Trina Goertzen; and cherished grandchildren, Jayden, Mikayla, Sabrina, Brandi, Benjamin, Salem and Brooklyn. Her beloved cat Buddy was always by her side. Also survived by her siblings, Margaret Estabrooks (Clinton), Ralph Coates (Cheryl), Allan Coates (Linda), Stewart Coates (Nancy) all of Moncton, NB, and Louise O’Brien (Kenneth) of Halifax, NS; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sheila was a graduate of The Moncton Hospital School of Nursing, midwifery training in Scotland, northern nurse training at University of Western Ontario, which led to working in Kashechewan, ON, Stanley Mission, Porcupine Plain, and Leoville, SK. She was a member of Living Hope Bible Church and Lions Club, in Prince Albert, SK. Sheila was chosen as the face of Two Miles for Mary, a fundraiser for senior’s transportation in Prince Albert. Sheila created numerous counted cross-stitch gifts to be forever treasured by family and friends. Expert Scrabble player and puzzle solver, she enjoyed Friday night music on Vision TV, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Cremation has taken place; a memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Lions Club will plant a tree to commemorate Sheila in their Memorial Forest at Regina Beach. In Sheila’s memory, donations may be made to the Living Hope Bible Church, the Prince Albert SPCA, or charity of choice would be appreciated.
