NORTHEAST, Sask. — Two local Co-ops are offering additional services to farmers through the purchase of three new retail agriculture sites.

Lake Country Co-op and Prairie North Co-op entered into an agreement with Paragon Ag Service Ltd. to purchase three Saskatchewan retail agriculture sites and two anhydrous ammonia locations.

Terry Tremblay, general manager of Prarie North Co-op, explained that the two co-ops are looking forward to expanding their footprint in the area.

“The co-ops in northeast Saskatchewan will have a stronger presence than what we’ve had in the past. So we’re excited to work with Paragon and their team to improve our services and continue the great service they’ve always provided to their customers.”

The deal is expected to close in mid-February and the sites will be turned over to the co-op banner in the coming weeks.

Prairie North Co-op will be acquiring the Melfort and Brooksby sites. Lake Country Co-op will acquire the Kinistino locations and an anhydrous ammonia site near Gronlid.

All parties are working together to ensure that employees are offered opportunities with the business going forward.

“One of the things former owners Sherman Boland and Don Nash were passionate about was how their people were treated, and also their legacy in the community.”

Tremblay said that Co-op intends to offer the same services. The business is looking forward to taking over from the leaders of the anhydrous ammonia fertilizer industry.

“That was something Paragon was really good at and that we’re excited to be part of as we had just started to get into the anhydrous ammonia fertilizer business in Melfort.”

All three parties felt as though this transition was a natural fit as all companies prioritize a commitment to service and the community.

“We really appreciate Don and Sherman. We honour the legacy they’ve left behind, and we hope we can do it justice,” Tremblay said.
