Hannah (Anne) Mary Doran (nee Norman) January 11, 1941 – January 10, 2022
Mom passed away at home in the early morning hours of January 10th, 2022. She had been ill for a number of years and while she will be missed, she is now free from her tired body. She is survived by her 4 children, Dawn, Barb (Rod), Bill (Tara) and Beth (Michael). Her grandchildren Tyler (Pam), Thomas (Ashley), Jade (Dave), a very special grandson Joshua and 6 great-grandchildren. Mom is also survived by her siblings Peggy (Ed), Bill (Mary), Flo (Lee) and Beattie (Gerry). She will join her parents John and Beatrice and a special aunt, Hannah Wood. Also waiting for her with wagging tails are Jesse, Bailey, Jack and Luna.
Mom was born and raised on the farm in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and resided there for most of her upbringing, apart from a few years in England. On the farm is where she developed her love for animals that she carried throughout her life. In the late 50’s she enrolled in the RAF where she met the father of her children, Bill. Mom resided in Prince Albert and was a successful real estate agent for much of the 70’s and 80’s and she was one of the first female prison guards at the Penitentiary. She was an avid curler and golfer and a volunteer with the Progressive Conservative Party. Politics, whether Municipal, Provincial or Federal was always a hot topic with Mom.
In the late 80’s Mom moved to BC and was later followed by Beth and Bill. She built a successful renovation company in Chilliwack and on retiring, purchased a hobby farm where she raised sheep. Her small flock kept her busy – rain, snow or sleet she was outside doing chores, mending fences, bottle feeding new lambs, planting an orchard and fixing gates. She worked tirelessly. On hot summer days you could find her sitting in the shade of the orchard, cutting up bite-sized pieces of fallen fruit and hand feeding the sheep and lambs. They were her pride and joy.
Mom had a terrific sense of humour and enjoyed a good laugh. She was sharp and witty to the very end. She liked nothing more than having a chat with friends and neighbors over a cup of tea, a good road trip, sitting in her chair and watching the Hummingbirds, spending time in her garden and a fire roasted hot dog. She made the best scones and banana cake.
Mom’s family would like to thank her care team from Fraser Health for their kindness and compassion showed to her in her remaining weeks. At Mom’s request, there will be a small family gathering at a later date in Prince Albert. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chilliwack SPCA, https://spca.bc.ca/locations/chilliwack/ or by mail: 6797 Hopedale Rd, Chilliwack, BC V2R 4L4
