Carlton Honda: Celebrating 40 years in Prince Albert

Recently, sales manager Sheldon Golding celebrated 20 years with the dealership. Chris Heron, a senior technician has been working at Carlton Honda since he was 16. That was 27 years ago! The receptionist, Sarah McLeod, has been greeting customers for 11 years and Daniel Hicks, the office manager has been part of the team for 17 years. Brent Abrey started his job at the dealership in the wash bay and recently finished his journeyperson status. Those are just a few examples of the dedicated staff. It’s a business that both the employees and the customers are committed to.

“We are a local company, and we strive to be good to our staff and treat them with respect and dignity. Honda as a corporation has a fantastic reputation of supporting communities. People love their Hondas,” said General Manager Steve Jeffers.

When Jeffers became a managing partner in 2009, he also became the first general manager in many years to live in Prince Albert. He immediately became an active member of community organizations such as Prince Albert Community Futures where he serves as the chair. He is also director for the Community Initiatives Fund and director and past president for the Prince Albert Pistol and Rifle Club. While he was helping the community grow, he was also helping Carlton Honda to grow in its current location. The business underwent a big renovation two years ago to update the interior of the building to current Honda standards.

Jeffers admits the COVID pandemic has put a strain on available new and used inventory thanks in part to chip, labour and shipping shortages but he encourages interested customers to still stop in for a visit so they can be added to a waitlist. That wait, he said, will be worth it.

“Honda has a reputation of quality, reliability and durability. Hondas never die. I have an article that hangs in the dealership from the Globe and Mail where the writer states a Honda Civic was ‘the best vehicle I ever owned’ with 14 years and more than 220-thousand kilometers and many family adventures, ” Jeffers said.

As for the future, Jeffers said he’s looking forward to being on the ground as the government begins to enforce a target for all vehicles to be zero-emission by 2035.

“I’m excited to see the next generation of Honda vehicles.” he said.
