Alice Theresa Greening (nee Jacobsen) was the 3rd daughter of Arne and Frances Jacobsen born on Aug. 20th, 1921 in Loreburn Saskatchewan & one of their 10 children. Alice left us at the age of 100 years in the early morning hours of Dec. 28th, 2021. She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Tim Dodds), Barbara (Doug Caswell) & her Grandson John Dylan Greening (Renee Paradis) & Step Grandsons Robert & Steven Caswell, her sisters Esther Sherwood, Dorothy Cox, Eleanor Bell & many nieces, nephews & cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years John (Jack) Greening, her first husband Roy Good & many family members & friends.
Alice graduated from the Holy Family School of Nursing where she went on to teach during the 1950s.
She then taught at SIAST & nursed at the Lutheran Sunset Home in Saskatoon. She was very active in the Lutheran Church as a choir director, teacher, & committee chair.
In 1972 she became a resort owner along with her immediate family & was active as such until her 94th year. She excelled at log building, carpentry, sewing, cooking, long haul driving, business operations. And yes, she was the white haired lady in the Anglin Lake Store who served up the best soft ice cream. Alice was very proud of her Norwegian roots & along with Jack & Dylan she worked at the Minot Hostfest for many years. Music was her passion & as a trained vocalist she loved to sing. As the head of our immediate household, Mom was our family’s rock. She was a steady voice of reason led by logic, empathy and her sense of justice.
She was a quiet presence, but one of great depth. If you turned to her for guidance you were blessed with wisdom.
She inspired others by the way she lived and by her passion for caring. She did everything to the best of her abilities. She was someone you could count on.
She was a woman of faith and we believe she is happy to be on the next phase of her journey, and we are at peace with that too. We want to thank the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home for their love & caregiving for the past three years & who made her passage from this earth one of peace & comfort. The staff have become members of our extended family & will remain as such. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
