Freezing Temperatures

Freezing temperatures expected for rest of 2021

Dec 27, 2021 | 5:38 PM

Wearing several layers of clothes is turning into a new fashion trend for many people in Saskatchewan.

The entire province is being hit by a cold spell, the worst happening in the south.

The lower half of Saskatchewan could see the wind chill close to -50C, while the northern communities can expect the wind to push the temperature to around -40C.

David Baggaley, meteorologist with Environment Canada, told paNOW these temperatures are gonna stay for a while.

“To be honest, not much is going to change until probably New Year’s Day at the earliest.”

As for potential good news, there’s very little snow forecasted to mix with the cold temperatures.

Despite there being little to no snow on the way, these temperatures are just as dangerous for people who choose to go outside.

“You have to dress warmly for one, try covering up as much as possible,” added Baggaley. “Any exposed skin can get frostbite within minutes.”

Hypothermia is also a real possibility in this type of weather.

The best recommendation from Baggaley is to simply stay inside as much as possible.
