Province reports 62 new cases of COVID-19 today, 622 active cases and no new deaths

Sixty-two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported today in the province; 34 of which were among unvaccinated individuals.

Eleven new cases were located in northern Saskatchewan zones; the Far North West (one), North West (three), and North Central (seven).

No new deaths reported today which leaves the provincial total at 936 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died.

There are currently 622 cases that are considered active, a 13 case increase from yesterday’s total. In the six northern zones of the province, there are currently 151 active cases of the virus, a one case difference from yesterday’s total.

One-quarter (25.8 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 40 to 59.

Almost one-half (46.7 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged five years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Dec. 9, a total of 118 individuals are hospitalized, including 88 inpatient hospitalizations and 30 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 118 patients, 77 (65.3 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

In addition to Saskatchewan ICU counts, there is one resident receiving out of province care in hospital. As this patient is receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in the dashboard.

Since the pandemic began 81,572 cases have been confirmed; 19,899 cases are from the North area (8,845 North West, 8,217 North Central, 2,837 North East) and 9,371 cases are from the Far North area (4,404 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,426 Far North East). There have been 80,014 cases that are considered recovered.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 8, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported two new cases in NITHA communities. Of the new cases, two (100 per cent) were unvaccinated.

There are 16 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, eight; Far North East, six; North Central, one; and North East, one. There have bee 6,845 cases (99 per cent) that have recovered, and one person is being hospitalized.

Please Note**- The difference in the numbers is due to the removal of transferred cases.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
