Hansen ‘brothers’ fill the net Mintos win big over the Stars

Dec 8, 2021 | 9:04 PM

They may not be actually related, but the Prince Albert Mintos’ Hansen ‘brothers’ terrorized the Battlefords Stars early on the way to a 6-0 rout Wednesday at the Art Hauser Centre—just like their fictional Slapshot counterparts did in the bowls of the Iron League.

Defenceman Chase Hansen scored twice in a 1:21 span in the opening period, after forward Carter Hanson scored just 2:36 after the opening faceoff to set the tone early for the Mintos. Hansen also later added an assist in the second period.

The Mintos wouldn’t let the Stars breathe, as they had them hemmed in their own zone for the majority of the period and outshot them 19-2 in the opening 20 minutes.

Although the Stars would improve and get back into the flow of the game, the Mintos continued to pile in the goals. The Mintos got two more goals in the second from Ryland Martin and Jacob Cossette, before Scott McLean scored his first U18 AAA career goal with 2:16 left in the third period.

Jayden Kraus made 18 saves for his first U18 AAA shutout in goal for the Mintos. The Mintos are back in action on Friday when they take on the Notre Dame Hounds, 7:00 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
