Forty-eight new cases of COVID reported today, 10 in northern Saskatchewan

As of Dec. 8, there are 48 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in the province today.

Of the new cases identified today, 10 have been identified in Northern Saskatchewan; Far North West (one), North West (six) and North Central (three).

There are two new deaths reported today bringing the provincial total to 936 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

There are currently 609 cases considered active, a four case drop from yesterday’s total. In the six northern zones of the province, there are currently active cases of COVID-19.

More than one-third (35.4 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 40 to 59.

Almost one-half (45.5 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged five years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Dec. 8, a total of 124 individuals are hospitalized, including 93 inpatient hospitalizations and 31 ICU hospitalizations. At the time of this report, vaccination status of the 124 hospitalized patients is unknown and awaiting an update from the SHA.

In addition to Saskatchewan ICU counts, there is one resident receiving out of province care in hospital. As this patient is receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in the dashboard. One resident has been repatriated since the last report.

Since the pandemic began there have been 81,510 cases are confirmed; 19,887 cases are from the North area (8,842 North West, 8,208 North Central, 2,837 North East) and 9,370 cases are from the Far North area (4,403 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,426 Far North East), and 79,965 cases that have been considered recovered.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 7, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported one new case in NITHA communities. Of the new cases, one (100 per cent) was unvaccinated.

There are 14 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, six; Far North East, six; North Central, one; and North East, one. There have been 6,847 cases (99 per cent) that have recovered, and one person is being hospitalized.

Please note the difference in the numbers is due to the removal of transferred cases.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
