P.A. and Melfort leading province in housing growth

Dec 7, 2021 | 1:55 PM

Prince Albert and Melfort regions are topping the list for housing growth across Saskatchewan.

According to the Saskatchewan REALTORS® Association, the two — along with South East Saskatchewan — are the only areas to see the number of sales increase by 20 per cent when compared to all of 2020.

P.A. and southeast Saskatchewan, which includes Estevan and Weyburn, have each seen sales rise by 24 per cent, while Melfort is looking at a jump of 42 per cent.

All regions in the province have already seen sizable increases from last year, however, the closest to the top three is Saskatoon as sales have risen by roughly 18 per cent.

The two areas with the lowest increase are Regina and North Battleford as they’ve seen around 14 per cent more sales.

As for the exact number of properties sold, there have been 922 in the P.A. region and 326 in the Melfort region. In 2020, they had 741 and 230 sales respectively.

Unsurprisingly, Saskatoon and Regina had the most sales. Yorkton has seen over 1,100 properties sold. The North Battleford region has seen just under 800 sales.

Meanwhile, the average price across the province is roughly $301,000.

The North Battleford, Melfort, and P.A. regions are each currently under this number.

Behind Saskatoon and Regina, P.A. has the third-highest average price at just under $260,000 with North Battleford coming in just behind at $227,000. Melfort currently has the second-lowest average price at around $192,000 with Yorkton properties averaging nearly $180,000.
