Highway manslaughter trial delayed

Dec 6, 2021 | 2:00 PM

Editor’s note: This story was updated on Dec. 8th to reflect the preliminary hearing wrapped up Tuesday, and the case will now proceed to Court of Queen’s Bench for a pre-trial conference on Jan. 14. At that time they may set a date for the trial.

A young woman accused of shooting and killing her ex-boyfriend, will be waiting longer to face trial.

Lynessa Highway, 19, was originally scheduled to face trial this week at Prince Albert Provincial Court, but her lawyer has opted instead to have the case tried at Court of Queen’s Bench.

In its place this week is a preliminary inquiry hearing, which will help determine if the Crown’s evidence is strong enough to proceed to trial. Over the course of two days, the Crown was expected to call five witnesses — three civilians and two police officers.

In the early morning hours of Oct. 10, 2020, 18-year-old Adam Pelletier was shot and killed at a residence in the 1700 block of 14th St. W.

A not guilty plea was entered last April.

Pelletier’s mother April Roberts previously told paNOW her son only needed two credits to graduate.
