Nomination process open for Samuel McLeod Business Awards

Even during the best of times, the business environment can be unpredictable. So, entrepreneurs making it through a pandemic is something worth applauding.

The Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce has opened nominations for the 31^st annual Samuel McLeod Business Awards, an event that recognizes enterprises for their commitments to employees, the community and long-term growth.

“Businesses have experienced a lot of challenges, navigating rules and restrictions,” said chamber CEO Patty Hughes. “You take a look at what’s going on through supply chain issues, escalated costs and profitability, those things have changed and there has been a lot of challenges and adversity that have come their way and so this really, to me, is a big recognition of being able to navigate those changes and have success.”

There are nine categories to nominate businesses in, including New Venture, Community Involvement, Customer Service, Non-Profit of the Year, Young Entrepreneur and Marketing.

“We also have the Female Business Leader and Male Business Leader categories to recognize individuals for their leadership and taking time to ensure their employees are at the heart of their success,” said Hughes. “Entrants are expected to show how they invest in their staff, engage and include them in the business and outline what they do in a happy and health workforce.”

The Business Transformation Award is presented to a business or organization that has completed renovations or restored property that already exists within the last two years and the improvements on the property have shown a positive impact in Prince Albert.

A Business of the Year winner will be chosen from all applications received in the other categories.

Different from previous years, the chamber is also asking for Legacy Award nominations. The Legacy Award was established in 1991 and is given to someone who is a longtime businessperson and community member responsible for business development in the Prince Albert district. Last year’s winner was Janine Favreau, owner of Nutters Everyday Naturals.

The Chamber is inviting the nominations to be submitted online via the website at https://www.princealbertchamber.com/nominations.

Award recipients will be named at the Samuel McLeod Business Awards gala on April 14, 2022.
