Cirque du Soleil CEO to be replaced by senior executive

Nov 30, 2021 | 4:02 PM

MONTREAL — Cirque du Soleil says it is promoting one of its senior executives to the role of president and CEO.

The Montreal-based circus said today in a statement that chief operating officer Stéphane Lefebvre will start in the new role on Dec. 1.

Current CEO Daniel Lamarre will become executive vice-chairman of the company’s board.

The circus company says Lamarre and Lefebvre will work together to seek out new revenue sources, grow the company’s audience in new markets and license new intellectual property.

Lamarre said in a statement that Lefebvre was a key part of the company relaunch earlier this year.

The change comes a little more than a year after the company, which was forced to cancel shows and lay off thousands of workers due to the pandemic, was acquired by a group of its creditors led by Catalyst Capital Group.
