Local police officers honoured for efforts to stop impaired driving

Three members of the Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) were recognized for their efforts to stop impaired drivers in the community.

Cst. Rob Lindsay, Cst. Dwight LeBlue, and Cst. Curtis Stasiw were each awarded a Van de Vorst Family Award for Excellence in Prevention from MADD Canada and SGI.

Karen Anthony-Burns with MADD Prince Albert presented the awards Wednesday.

The awards are handed out annually in memory of Jordan and Chanda Van de Vorst and their two children, Kamryn and Miguire, who lost their lives due to impaired driving.

The honours are given to police officers who are responsible for removing between eight and 16 impaired drivers annually.

Between April 2020 and April 2021, Cst. Lindsay helped remove 18 impaired drivers through his work as a member of the Combined Traffic Services (CTSS) Unit. He also received a Van de Forst Award in 2020.

Cst. LeBlue is also a member of the CTSS Unit and helped remove 11 impaired drivers between April 2020 and April 2021.

Cst. Stasiw is currently an officer in the PAPS Patrol Section stopped 11 impaired drivers over the past year during his patrols.

Between April 2020 and April 2021, Prince Albert Police say they’ve removed 104 impaired drivers from the road.
