Local artist’s new song shares motivational message

An up-and-coming artist from Prince Albert is sharing a motivational message in his new song “For the Love of Money.”

Hip Hop artist Yaykno Amilly told paNOW he went through a creative process, sat down, and wrote about everything that helped him get to where he is today.

“That’s what that was putting all my work in, all my effort,” he said.

American rapper Nipsey Hussle inspired Amilly to begin his music career and by writing “For the Love of Money” he hopes to also inspire others.

“I don’t care if it’s one kid or one supporter, showing them that it doesn’t matter where you come from because for me, I grew up in foster care, I grew up in group homes and I set goals to go and work in group homes and that’s what I’m doing now. I take care of adults with special disabilities, and I love it.”

One of his goals, when he graduated, was to work in a group home and has done so for the past four years. He strives to give those people the love and care he got when he was living in a group home. He said without them he wouldn’t be where he is today.

Over the years he said he’s built up his brand and his music has been a sole part of his being. He’s recently done a show in Calgary but hasn’t done anything local as he’s looking to branch out.

“I want to use my music to motivate and show them that you can do anything you just put your mind to,” he added.

Amilly started his own clothing brand in 2019 and has an online store called Yayknoamillyshop.com.

He said when he first started out, he would sell hoodies out of the back of his vehicle. He also has his own signature shoe, the Yaykno Amilly XV’s, created by a shoe company from Italy.

He said what’s made him successful is his music, clothing brand and his presence on social media. Building up his social media accounts he said is where it all started before he even started selling clothes, and his supporters have been crucial to that.

“They’ve just seen me grow so much and it’s just unreal and it’s crazy when I’m out in public and I see some of my hoodies,” he said.
