Prince Albert and northern Saskatchewan are seeing an increase in job numbers for the sixth straight month.

That’s according to Statistics Canada which released its monthly labour force update on Friday.

The region added 900 jobs in October. Only the area of Saskatoon-Biggar saw more in the province, as they created double the number of positions.

The educational services sector saw the biggest increase as they added 1,500 spots, while the wholesale/ retail trade and the health care and social assistance sectors each created 400 positions.

The construction sector also added 300 jobs.

The transportation/ warehousing and information, culture, and recreation sectors each saw the largest monthly decreases, each losing around 500 positions.

Since the start of the year, Prince Albert and northern Saskatchewan have seen an increase of 5,900 spots. This is the second-best growth in the province, only trailing the area of Regina-Moose Mountain.

In September, Prince Albert and northern Saskatchewan were in the top 10 across the entire country for job growth as there were 1,800 positions created.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for the region now sits at five per cent, the second lowest among regions in the province. Yorkton-Melville’s rate currently sits at 3.7 per cent.

Prince Albert and northern Saskatchewan haven’t seen its unemployment rate this low since January 2015 when it was sitting at 4.8 per cent.
