Deathly record reached with 800 total COVID related deaths in province

With two new deaths reported today by the provincial government, Saskatchewan has now reached 800 residents with COVID-19 who have died since the beginning of the pandemic.

The provincial case fatality rate is currently at 1.1 per cent.

There were also 355 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported today; 255 are among unvaccinated individuals and 87 are in children between the ages of 0-11.

Active cases in the province have dropped by 70 cases from 3,174 yesterday to 3,104 as of Thursday.

Of the new cases reported, 122 are in Northern Saskatchewan; Far North West (14), Far North East (13), North West (53), North Central (34), and North East (eight).

More than one-quarter (28.5 per cent) of new cases are between the ages of 20 to 39.

Just over one-third (34.0 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Thursday, a total of 322 people are hospitalized, including 246 inpatient hospitalizations and 76 in ICU. Of the 322 patients, 236 (73.3 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

Three additional patients have been transferred to Ontario, for a total of six Saskatchewan cases who have been taken out-of-province. As they are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in dashboard.

NITHA numbers

There were 25 new cases to report on Oct. 20 in NITHA communities; 16 (64 per cent) were unvaccinated, three (12 per cent) were partially vaccinated and six (24 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 205 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are found in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 49; Far North East, 104; North Central, 33; and North East, 19. There have been 6400 cases (96 per cent) that have recovered, and 12 people are hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

There continue to be no new cases of COVID-19 within the Athabasca Health Authority (AHA). In total there have been 518 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and eight people have died who were diagnosed with COVID-19.

“Although we do not have any active CoVID-19 case(s), we encourage the community members to continue to follow all the CoVID-19 prevention guidelines that we frequently share,” stated Taiwo Olubanwo, executive director of Primary Health Care with AHA in a recent COVID-19 update.
