Five reported deaths and 246 new COVID-19 cases announced today

As of Oct. 20, the provincial government announced another 246 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 184 among unvaccinated individuals and 76 cases in children under the age of 11.

Five new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 798 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 1.1 per cent.

There are 3,174 cases that are currently considered active, a drop of 260 cases from yesterday, and 71,213 cases are considered recovered. Since the pandemic began there has been 75,185 reported cases.

The new cases in Northern Saskatchewan are located in the Far North West (four), Far North East (four), North West (37), North Central (26), and North East (one).

Almost one-third (30.9 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 11 and under.

Almost one-third (31.2 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 20, a total of 323 individuals are hospitalized, including 241 inpatient hospitalizations and 82 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 323 patients, 238 (73.7 per cent) were not fully vaccinated. Two additional patients have been transferred to Ontario, for a total of three Saskatchewan cases who have been transferred out-of-province. As they are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in dashboard.

NITHA numbers

NITHA announced another 21 new cases to report on Oct. 19 in NITHA communities; 14 (67 per cent) were unvaccinated, one (five per cent) are partially vaccinated and six (28 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 47; Far North East, 104; North Central, 28; and North East, 16. There have been 6,386 cases (96 per cent) that have recovered, and 12 people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

No new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) on Oct. 19. There are currently no active cases in the AHA.
