Four new COVID-related deaths reported by province; 312 new cases brings total to 4,364 currently active

Another 312 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported today by the provincial government.

Four new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial total to 773 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

New cases today include 243 cases in unvaccinated individuals and 65 cases in young children under 11.

The new cases in Northern Saskatchewan are located in the Far North West (10), Far North East (19), North West (39), North Central (20) and North East (eight).

New cases today brings the provincial total to 73,662 reported cases; 4,364 cases currently considered active and 68,525 cases that are considered recovered.

More than one-quarter (27.6 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 40 to 59.

Almost one-quarter (23.1 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 15, a total of 339 individuals are hospitalized, including 261 inpatient hospitalizations and 78 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 339 patients, 256 (75.5 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 15, 761,888 people in the province are fully vaccinated.

NITHA numbers

Twenty new cases were reported in NITHA communities on Oct. 14; 13 (65 per cent) were unvaccinated, one (five per cent) are partially vaccinated and six (30 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 283 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), two; Far North West, 43; Far North East, 173; North Central, 56; and North East, nine. There have been 6,169 cases (95 per cent) have recovered, and nine people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Taiwo Olubanwo, executive director of Primary Health Care with the Athabasca Health Authority had some important announcements from the Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) today.

As of Oct. 15, they were pleased to report that Fond-Du-Lac (FDL) has beat the earlier flagged presumptive CoVID-19 outbreak. There are currently no active cases in the AHA.

Since June 23, 2021, the AHA has recorded no fewer than 163 COVID-19 cases whilst recording about 518 cases in total since the start of the pandemic, reported Olubanwo.

“We’ve had to deal with multiple outbreaks — these outbreaks were effectively managed.”

Within the AHA, 41 per cent of residents are now fully vaccinated with about 41 per cent yet to be vaccinated and 18 per cent have been partially vaccinated.

There are now a 50 per cent vaccination rate of people living in Fond-Du-Lac. Olubanwo said this now puts Fond-Du-Lac in a yellow CoVID-19 vaccine uptake zone. Black Lake is the only community remaining in the red zone with only 22 per cent of residents now fully vaccinated.
