Canadian Tire Classic cancelled due to ‘COVID-19 situation,’ could be rescheduled

Oct 8, 2021 | 4:54 PM

The Canadian Tire Classic, the Prince Albert crosstown cup game between the Carlton Crusaders and St. Mary Marauders has been cancelled due to “a COVID-19 situation.”

That’s according to Carlton principal Jeff Court, who added he is hopeful the game will be rescheduled in the coming weeks.

Court said Carlton was notified about the COVID-19 positive case(s) at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, four hours before the scheduled kickoff at Max Clunie Field.

“We are disappointed that this is the situation that is occurring, but ultimately, the health and safety of everybody involved is at the forefront of what our thoughts are at this time,” Court said. “We do look forward to rescheduling this game at a time we are able to move forward in a safe way.”

Court said both schools and both school divisions (Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division and the Prince Albert Catholic School Division) are doing what they can to ensure everybody is safe.

“Both school divisions are working super hard at trying to ensure our students have a good experience, while moving forward in a safe way,” Court said. “Ultimately, we continue to work together, St. Mary’s and ourselves, trying to make sure that our students have a healthy experience.”
