SJHL Showcase is back

SJHL partners with SaskTel to broadcast 2021 Warman SJHL Player Showcase after 2020 hiatus

Sep 28, 2021 | 10:03 AM

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) is tuned in with SaskTel for the upcoming SJHL Showcase in Warman.

The event, which runs Oct. 4 through Oct. 6 at the Legends Centre in Warman, will be available live on SaskTel maxTV and maxTV Stream channels.

With 200 scouts expected in attendance, these players are able to showcase their talents in front of NHL, CIS and NCAA scouts from across North America.

According to Logan Fraser, director of Marketing and communications for the SJHL, this showcase has been around for many years, however, the SJHL only very recently partnered with SaskTel in order to live broadcast the games.

With last season’s showcase being cancelled due to the pandemic, this will be the second year of live streaming.

For fans, this partnership is especially important, as it allows them to watch every game right in their own home, without having to travel or worry about COVID-19.

“We give the fans the opportunity to watch from the comforts of their own couch,” said Fraser. ” As much as we want them in the stands, the reality is that COVID’s still around, so this allows fans to be able to continue to watch their favourite team, alongside a great broadcast. It’s super exciting stuff and we’re really excited to be back on the ice.”

This showcase is just as exciting for players as the three-day, regular season event provides a huge opportunity for them to show scouts exactly what they have to offer.

“This is a way for our players to really showcase their talent in front of a mass amount of scouts that fly in from all across North America. It allows that connectivity between our players and our scouts to really showcase the talent that we have on the ice,” said Fraser.

For the scouts, this is so much more than just connectivity as the location of this event and its proximity to Saskatoon, along with how much great hockey is played in such a small amount of time, is as close as you can get to the absolute perfect scenario.

“From a scout’s perspective, this is a showcase that they can fly into, watch 12 games of hockey and really pinpoint some players that they want to watch throughout the season,” said Fraser.

According to Fraser, this is something that the SJHL looks to continue to do every year, as it’s a great way to kick off their season of play.

“It is a crucial event for the SJHL and will be for many years to come. Basically, it’s a kick-off to our season to showcase the talent that we have, right here in Saskatchewan.”

The SJHL Showcase, which is part of the regular season schedule, will feature 12 games with each of the league’s 12 teams playing two games.
