G3 Canada to build new elevators in Alberta and Saskatchewan

MELFORT, Sask. — G3 Canada has announced it will build two new elevators on the prairies.

G3 Canada corporate communications specialist Peter Chura said G3 Melfort, Sask. and G3 Rycroft, Alta. will have a capacity of 42,000 tonnes located on CN Rail.

He said the company has been steadily increasing its network of high efficiency grain facilities across Western Canada, providing convenient opportunities for farmers and the speed to deliver grain.

‘These two new areas certainly are a logistical extension of what we’ve been doing the past five years,” Chura said.

Both new elevators will include a loop track that can load a 150-car unit train, the ability to unload a Super-B truck in less than five minutes, good road access for area producers and rail links to export markets. Grain is delivered to its terminal at the Port of Vancouver.

“The more quickly we can move the grain the more delivery opportunities for farmers and all of their communities to bring the grain to us,” he said.

G3 Canada doesn’t disclose the cost to build a new facility but Chura said it is a major committment.

“It’s a significant investment, not only for the farmers but for the communities involved. We’re giving farmers in the area more opportunities to deliver their grain, to market their grain. Of course we like to be involved in the communities we serve,” Chura said.

Construction will begin later this year, pending final regulatory approvals, with completion expected in early 2023.

G3 currently has 17 grain elevators across Western Canada including two which opened this year in Vermilion, Alta. and Swift Current, Sask.
